# Create Version

> Snapshots a Google Tag Manager workspace into a new container version, ready for gtm_publish_version

Snapshots a Google Tag Manager workspace into a new container version, ready for gtm\_publish\_version. GTM deletes the workspace after versioning and replaces it with a new default workspace. Fails if the workspace has compiler errors or merge conflicts; Google reports only that compiler errors exist, so the specific errors have to be reviewed in the Tag Manager interface.
